Award for High Environmental and Social Standards TUI Environmental Champion for the Van der Valk Nature Resort Drewitz

Drewitz/Nossentiner Hütte. Once again, there is reason to celebrate at the resort on Drewitzer Lake. Because in recent days, the news about receiving the TUI Environmental Champion 2017 award arrived there.

With this award, the organizer has been annually rewarding hotels since 1996 that are particularly committed to environmentally friendly and socially responsible hotel management. This can be done in various ways, such as by helping the hotels save electricity and water, reducing waste to
avoid or reuse wastewater, but also by involving the local population, for example by using regional products or employing many locals.

To receive the coveted award, hotels must meet two criteria. Firstly, they need a valid sustainability certificate recognized by the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council). Secondly, at least 80% of TUI guests must express satisfaction with the hotel's environmental commitment, as indicated in relevant guest questionnaires.

Only slightly more than 200 hotels worldwide currently met these requirements and can now call themselves TUI Environmental Champion 2017. Against this background, those in Drewitz are particularly proud of the renewed award, according to Operations Manager Martin Krüger.

Travelife Award for the Van der Valk Nature Resort Drewitz

Sustainability certificate awarded to the resort at Lake Drewitz for the first time

Drewitz/Nossentiner Hütte. Shortly after confirmation of successful reclassification as a 4-star hotel by DEHOGA MV, Van der Valk Naturresort Drewitz can celebrate another award. On March 6th, they received the news of obtaining the Travelife Silver Award.

Travelife is a global initiative founded in 2007 that is committed to sustainable developments in tourism by helping tourism companies on their path to greater sustainability. The focus is on the environment and people, from the guest to the employee to the supplier.

As part of a multi-stage certification program and based on a comprehensive catalog of criteria that includes international standards and guidelines (such as ISO 14001 –
Environmental management) integrated, businesses can evaluate, document, and communicate their previous sustainable achievements. At the same time, they are empowered for environmentally friendly and socially responsible corporate management. At the final stage of the certification process, compliance with the international Travelife standards is verified by an independent assessor during an on-site audit and, if the conditions are met, certified with a Bronze, Silver, or Gold status.

Leading tour operators such as TUI or Thomas Cook are already using the Travelife system for accommodations. This allows them to evaluate accommodations based on specific criteria such as energy efficiency, waste and water management, but also criteria such as health and safety, relations with locals (regionality), or fair business practices.

The Travelife Award is valid for 2 years. During this period, certified companies are allowed to communicate their exceptional achievements in the field of sustainability to their customers and other stakeholders using the Travelife Premium logo.

Your excursion destination directly at Drewitzer See | 08/2013

Still known to most as the hunting residence of the former head of state and party of the former GDR, or later as the nature park residence or also as the Drewitzer See nature resort, the idyllic estate in the Nossentiner-Schwinzer Heide has been owned by the Dutch family company Van der Valk since 2009.

In search of a viable concept, the owner found a strong partner in TUI, under whose young, nature-oriented brand VIVERDE the gem at Drewitzer Lake has been welcoming its guests since May of this year. No costs or efforts were spared to meet the concept of environmentally conscious and sustainable tourism and accordingly the expectations of the guests.

Now, after a long, busy winter of 2012/2013, they can look forward to extensively renovated holiday homes, a modern and cozy restaurant, as well as a new swimming pool with a real feel-good atmosphere. Gradually, progress continues, and the renewal of the sauna and wellness area has already been initiated.

The facility with its amenities is not only open to overnight guests. Rather, it aims to provide locals with the opportunity to unwind during a "short vacation" at Lake Drewitz. Whether in the restaurant, where Chef Christian Höfs impresses with fresh regional and international cuisine featuring herbs from the in-house herb garden, in the swimming pool, or at one of the numerous events.

Perhaps you also feel like discovering this once secret place anew? Then just stop by. The restaurant is open daily from 12 - 9 PM. Tip: Enjoy a lovely Sunday and be pampered by the Viverde Mecklenburgische Seen team during a late summer brunch on September 8th from 11 AM - 2 PM. Swimming pool shines in new splendor | 07/2013

Punctually for the open house day, the doors of the newly renovated swimming pool at Viverde Mecklenburgische Seen opened for the first time. The swimming pool is available free of charge to overnight guests and to other interested visitors for a small admission fee. The next step is the redesign of the sauna and wellness area, whose completion is planned for the end of the year.

Top Hotel Family Cup | 11/2011

The Van der Valk Nature Resort at Drewitzer See (Mecklenburg Lake District) has been awarded the "Top hotel Family Cup." On this occasion, the Leisure Publishing House in Landsberg invited representatives from business and politics, the hotel industry, tourism, and education to the Nürburgring. The 4th edition of the publication "Selected Family Hotels for Well-Being" describes over 50 establishments in Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland, whose well-being qualities have been thoroughly examined by independent experts. The jury's statement read: "The magnificent nature of the resort at Drewitzer See, nestled in the Nossentiner Schwinzer Heide, has been consistently and impressively integrated into the leisure program by those responsible. Children become environmental detectives with magnifying glass and tweezers to explore plants and animals in more detail; with the 'herb witch,' they prepare toothpaste from self-collected plants, for example, or go on a family ranger tour through the Drewitzer Forest with the district forester. Whoever understands how to introduce families and especially children to nature in such a sympathetic and playful way deserves the 'Family Cup 2011' in the 'Leisure Program' category."

A pearl in the middle of nature | 10/2011

Embedded in one of the most beautiful natural landscapes of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, at the foot of the well-known Drewitzer Lake, lies the 14-hectare holiday complex, which has been operated by Van der Valk Hotels & Restaurants since October 2009. In the middle of the forests of the Nossentiner - Schwinzer Heide, surrounded by numerous lakes and rivers, the uniquely idyllic holiday complex offers a one-of-a-kind nature and holiday experience.

Incidentally, the Drewitzer See resort is probably the most famous property in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. On the occasion of Erich Honecker's 70th birthday, the then head of the GDR State Security, Erich Mielke, commissioned the construction of a guest house for around 40 million East German marks. According to legend, today's Autobahn 19 even takes a large detour here so that Honecker could have his peace. The main house still stands today. Only his carriage, with which the head of state and party went hunting, reminds of Honecker himself, who even had the forest closed for his hunt in autumn 1989. Instead of the houses for the Stasi guards, who faced angry demonstrators in October 1989, there are now pretty holiday homes. But not only for that reason was the area particularly protected during the GDR times, where even then no motorboats were allowed to operate. Since the Drewitzer See has no above-ground inflow or outflow, it is only fed by the lime-rich groundwater. Its nutrient poverty has resulted in an unusual community of plant and animal species. Furthermore, the lake is one of the cleanest and clearest bodies of water in Germany.

Anyone who visits Drewitz today will find an open gate. A perfect vacation spot to literally let your soul dangle and forget the stress of everyday life. This is ensured not only by 22 charming and modern vacation homes, 26 vacation home halves, and 5 suites in the main building of the resort. The resort is also a small world of experiences, as the abundance of leisure activities proves. Wellness enthusiasts can not only use a small swimming pool, sauna, and solarium, but also choose from a variety of beauty treatments and massages. But the resort also offers a lot for active guests. The "Sunshine Club" provides a comprehensive sports and leisure program. From Nordic walking to nature and adventure hikes to water aerobics. Especially the youngest guests will get their money's worth here. The main building houses the cozy à la carte restaurant as well as the large outdoor terrace with breathtaking panoramic views of the Drewitz lake and forest landscape. A stay at the popular boathouse, which is located directly on the lake's shore, is also unforgettable for guests. This is also a reason why it is a highly sought-after location for celebrations and events.
